Job Description

During my service at UNU-IIST as a research fellow from October 1995, my main assignment has been to train UNU-IIST fellows in research on "formal design techniques for real-time systems". I have done a number of research works together with fellows and colleagues most of which have been published as joint papers with them.

As a scientist, I have been a reviewer of various papers for various international conferences and journals. I also have served in a various program committees of conferences in computer sciences.

I also have taught several UNU-IIST courses in Macau and off-shore courses on real-time system development using Duration Calculus and on model checking. These off-shore courses took place in institutions in developing countries, e.g. Laboratory of Formal Methods, PUC, Rio Janeiro, Brazil, July 1996, Curitiba, Brazil, November 1996, San Luis, Argentina, December 1996, Hanoi, Vietnam, 1995, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, January 2000, Tunis, Tunisa, February 2000, Saint-Luis, Senegal, February 2000, IFIP WG 2.3 school "state-of-the-art of programming", Tandil, Argentina, September 2000.

I am in-charge of the UNU-IIST Computer Science Department Development Project. This project aims to strengthen all aspects of computer science teaching in universities in developing countries. Under this project we are trying to arrange for computer science lecturers or professors from universities in developing countries to learn new courses at partner universities in industrialised countries. Then when they return to their own universities they use the knowledge they gain as the basis for improving and updating existing courses or introducing new courses into the teaching curriculum of their own university.

I am also in-charge of maintaining records of UNU-IIST publications including UNU-IIST technical reports. These publications are accessible via UNU-IIST web-page. I am also responsible for organising UNU-IIST dissemination activities disseminating in developing countries information about publications and free-ware in the area of software technology.
