13 Other Contacts, Possibilities, Plans
The following list plans for further activities:
- A visit was made, by the then Director-designate,
in September 1991, to Teheran in connection with
the first Iran National Informatics Day. The event was sponsored
by the Iran National CommissionUNDP/UNESCO prescription: UNESCO for UNESCO.
UNU/IIST expects that
it can assist the Islamic Republic of Iran in its informatics planning.
- Proposal for Senior High School Teacher support for Informatics
teaching, UNESCOUNDP/UNESCO prescription: UNESCO, Paris -- a paper for a June 1993
workshop is under preparation.
- Support for research on (Polya) language design, implementation
and application, Deptartment of Computer Science, Peking University.
- Support for Beijing University of Post
& Telecommunications with
respect to its CHILL and SDL activities.
- Extensive contacts have been set up during the fall of 1992
with UNESCOUNDP/UNESCO prescription: UNESCO IIP Focal Points in South East Asia and the
Pacific -- so far a few have responded. UNU/IIST intends to
engage in activities via these focal points with leading
centers of industry, universities and research institutes.
- The UNU/IIST director was an observer
at the December 1-4 1992 Fourth Session of the UNESCO
UNDP/UNESCO prescription: UNESCO IIP (Intergovernmental Informatics Programme)
meeting in Paris.
- Initial contact has been made with The World Bank UNDP/UNESCO prescription: World Bank
sponsored Engineering Research Center of the Beijing Research Institute
of Automation (for machine building industry) of the P.R. of China
Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry. A proposal is being
drafted for a joint Training and R&D project concerning software
technologies for flexible manufacturing systems and robots.
- Finally UNU/IIST is now planning to set up, in early 1993, a
public domain (free) software distribution centre -- initially
focusing on software for software technology development.
