3 The UNU/IIST Charter
UNU/IIST is to serve developing nations in attaining self-reliance
in software technology.
UNU/IIST shall help developing countries in:
- Own development of as advanced and indigenous software as possible
-- emphasizing design calculi oriented techniques and tools for:
- Requirements
development,
- Programming and
- Software engineering
- Software technology management:
- Procurement: tendering, bidding, evaluation, selection,
negotiation, contracting, conformance testing, &c.,
- Project management: planning, allocation,
scheduling, resourcing (incl. budgetting and financing),
monitoring and control, quality assurance, &c.,
- Product management: market assessment, risk analysis, pricing,
sales and customer support, &c.,
- R&D management: issues of experimental research,
technology transfer, &c., -- and:
- Facilities management: procurement, performance assessment,
networking, distribution, upgrading, &c.
- Graduate university teaching:
- Curriculum development -- and:
- Research and lecturing inter-dependencies
- Research, -- and, through the above:
- Use of as sophisticated software as reasonable.
So far UNU/IIST has not started serious work on the last two
items of the above list. Such is expected, however, to start from early 1993.
