6.2 UNU/IIST Recruitment

6.2.1 Research Fellow

Two posts were vacant since two Research Fellows left UNU/IIST in August 2000 and February 2001 respectively. After two rounds of recruitment effort, the vacancies will be filled in March and July 2002.

To relieve the shortage of human resource, the UNU/IIST ex-staff, Dr. Xu Qiwen, has been employed under SSA for six months since 1 September 2001 as a part-time Research Fellow.

6.2.2 Administrative & Programme Services Officer

UNU/IIST has been recruiting its Administrative and Programme Services Officer (APSO). The deadline for application is 1 March 2002. Ms. Wendy Hoi has functioned as the Acting APSO since 15 July 2001.

6.3 Biennium Budget Implementation

By the end of December 2001 the total expenditures were estimated at 90% of the total biennium budget.

6.4 Project Administration

Since July 2001, UNU/IIST has taken effort to further improve its administration of project activities.

  1. In order to spare our limited resource for more activities, we re-emphasised cost-effective measures, and the UNU/IIST budget control policy.

  2. Based on the UNU/IIST experience a guideline for project administration was formulated and distributed. The guideline encouraged active and timely assistance from UNU/IIST administrative staff in organising and managing the UNU/IIST project activities.
