Personnel/staffing situation
Prof. Zhou Chaochen retired on 30 September and returned to Beijing,
where he continues to work with the Chinese Academy of Science.
The new Director, Prof. Armando Haeberer, joined UNU/IIST on 1
November 2002. Chris George was Acting Director in the interim
period. Tragically, Armando was to suffer a heart attack and pass
away on 11 February 2003.
Dr. Tomasz Janowski resigned from UNU/IIST on 27 September, and
returned to Poland. We will start recruitment for a replacement
during 2003.
Dr. Bernhard K. Aichernig from Graz University of Technology,
Austria, arrived
at UNU/IIST on 1 March under a 2-year appointment as a research
staff. Dr. Zhiming Liu from Leicester University, United Kingdom,
arrived at UNU/IIST on 3 July as a research staff under a 2-year
Personal Service Agreement.
The Administrative and Programme Services Officer position has been
filled temporarily by Wendy Hoi since July 2001. The post has been
advertised, and candidates short-listed, but the recruitment process
has been postponed until a new Director is appointed.
Mr. Tian Siyuan, Computer Systems Assistant, left UNU/IIST in February, and
we recruited Ms Kitty Chan Iok Sam to fill the vacancy on 13 May.
Ms Anna Chiu, Administrative Assistant, left UNU/IIST at the end
of May, and we recruited Ms Sandy Lee Yuen Kwan to be the replacement in
July.
