Personnel/staffing situation
The Director, Prof Armando Haeberer, died suddenly on 11 February
2003. Chris George, Senior Research Fellow since September 1994, was
appointed Director a.i. for the period 1 March 2003 to 29 February
2004. A search for a new Director was started, with a closing date
for applications of 15 October 2003. Interviews were held in Tokyo in
December, and it is expected that a new Director will be appointed in
the first half of 2004.
A Research Fellow position was also advertised, and in fact it was
found possible when the 2004-5 budget was prepared to make two such
appointments. A short list of four candidates was prepared, and after
interviews in late September the Rector was asked to offer posts to
two of the interviewees. These two posts were offered, but
unfortunately one person eventually declined the offer. The other, Dr
Antonio Cerone, is expected to take up his position early in 2004.
The other post will be re-advertised.
