4 General Matters

4.1 Premises

4.1.1 Temporary Premises

After 11 months in premises not commensurate with UN requirements, UNU/IIST finally moved, early June 1993, into its present, temporary, 600+ m², premises¹ These present temporary offices are fully appropriate and UNU/IIST is naturally most relieved and very grateful to the Governor of Macau. UNU/IIST may, however, shortly run out of spare office space.

4.1.2 Permanent Premises

The Governor of Macau has graciously offered that a fine Patrician Villa: Da Silva Mendes be rebuilt to serve as UNU/IIST's future, permanent premises. A leading architectural firm: Irene and Bruno Soares, Macau, is presently under contract to the Macau Government, to propose a redesign. Such a slightly more than 2000 m² draft redesign is now being cost- and time-estimated and approval for its realisation sought through the Macau agency for the protection of Macau's heritage. The redesign proposal is just very, very fine.
