6.3 Fellows

The UNU/IIST Fellowship concept and its enactment is, perhaps, the most important facet of UNU/IIST. The purpose of a UNU/IIST Fellowship is Training in Research (techniques), or in Advanced Software Development (techniques), or in University Course topics, or in any combination of these.

UNU/IIST selects its Fellows from known groups and only after having met these candidates, for example at prior UNU/IIST Training Workshops (at their site, or nearby).

UNU/IIST is now widening its circle of Fellowships from first centred at China, to now include Vietnam and Indonesia. Future fellows are expected to come also from DPRK, Malaysia, The Philippines, etc.

Fellows actually co-research and co-develop computing science or advanced software development topics and systems while receiving `Master Class' teaching and guidance. To train Fellows is a resource-consuming activity at the highest levels of UNU/IIST's professional, scientific staff.

UNU/IIST would like to expand both Scientific Staff and Fellowships at UNU/IIST, but is currently severely financially constrained.
