10 CONCLUSION
UNU/IIST can now be said to be well established:
- Personnel:
- There is a well-functioning academic science and technology staff
- there is a well-functioning administration and general services staff
- there is a smooth flow of well-qualified Fellows.
- Programmatic Activities:
- The off-shore as well as Macau-based post-graduate and
post-doctoral courses are all well received and have found a
suitable level serving also as UNU/IIST's `entry' into
local science and technology groups in public and private sector
administrations and enterprises, universities and
research centres
- the joint Hybrid and Reactive Systems
research projects are highly successful: excellent
results and world-wide visibility
- the advanced joint development projects
-- based on a relevant theme of Software Support for
Infrastructures -- are likewise successful
- important events are continuing
- additional dissemination is imminent
- there is increased demand for consultancy.
- Facilities are fine: a well-functioning computer and communications
centre, adequate temporary premises with a prospect of greatly
improved permanent premises.
UNU/IIST intends to consolidate. In 1996 it will:
- continue its dialogue with the Macau
Government in order to achieve research and advanced development project activities
relevant to Macau and commensurate with its capabilities
- make its courses, fellowships, and research and development
projects even more efficient
- spread its programmatic activities to other parts of Asia,
and to Africa and Latin America31
- initiate a reasonable additional dissemination activity
- expect to obtain a number of externally funded
projects.32
