7.2 Premises

7.2.1 Office Premises

Following the decision by the Macau Government that the Casa Silva Mendes would be the permanent premises of UNU/IIST, renovation of this building started in April 1998. It is expected that the work will be completed by early 1999 and that UNU/IIST will be able to move into the new building sometime in April 1999.

7.2.2 Fellows' Apartments

Although the Macau authorities have still to take a decision about permanent lodgings and catering facilities for Fellows, Macau Foundation decided, at the beginning of 1998, to extend the current leases on 10 apartments (Nam San Gardens) and to increase the rental subsidy to UNU/IIST from 1000 MOP to 3000 MOP per apartment. As a result, fellows now pay only a nominal rent.
