5.2 Event Sponsorship
-
In 22-23 August 2000, UNU/IIST organised the International Symposium on
Software Industry in Developing Countries in Beijing.
This Symposium was a satellite event of the International Federation
for Information Processing, World Computer Congress of 2000 (IFIP WCC'2000).
A brief description of this event can be found in the Introduction.
Please visit the News and Announcements page for August 2000 on the UNU/IIST
Web Site (http://www.iist.unu.edu) for the symposium Programme.
-
UNU/IIST sponsored the IFIP WG2.3 Workshop (September 4-5) and School/Seminar
- State-of-the-Art on Program Design Using Logic, (September 6-13) in Tandil,
Argentina. UNU/IIST gave financial support to 6 participants from Uruguay,
Chile and Argentina, and covered travel cost and local expenses of a School/Seminar
lecturer, Prof. Eric Hehner, from Toronto. UNU/IIST also sent one staff
(Dr. Dang Van Hung) to give lectures at the School/Seminar.
-
Asian Computing Conference (ASIAN 2000), Penang, Malaysia, December 2000.
UNU/IIST has provided 3 conference participants with financial support.
-
Asian Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC 2000), Singapore,
December 2000. UNU/IIST has provided financial support for 2 conference
participants.
5.3 Ex-Fellow Survey
We conducted a survey about UNU/IIST ex-Fellows, and received 36
responses. Among the responses,
-
35 marked the UNU/IIST training as excellent or good;
-
23 marked the UNU/IIST training impact on their career development as directly
and significantly;
-
16 marked the impact on their current job as directly and significantly;
-
For the UNU/IIST course impact, 19 marked as definitely strong;
-
About frequency of visiting UNU/IIST web site, 18 marked as monthly or
more often;
-
Some suggested to improve UNU/IIST training activities by providing courses
on more practical or new subjects.
From the survey we can conclude that UNU/IIST training activities
have been satisfactory, but the technical scope of the training should
be widened in future.
