IV/1 Collaboration
The UNU/IIST Programme (see Reference Handbook section I/2/7),
which has been approved and adopted by the UNU/IIST Board and the UNU
Council, mandates that UNU/IIST shall:
- help universities in developing countries attain the highest
quality education (including course curricula) in computing science
and software engineering;
- help research laboratories in developing countries to
internationalize their research; and
- help the information technology (software) industry in
developing countries attain the highest quality when developing
their own software.
UNU/IIST achieves this mandate by collaborating with partners (private
and public institutions, including companies, universities and
research institutes) in developing countries on various kinds of
activities:
- advanced training courses;
- Macau-based research projects with invited fellows from
developing countries;
- Macau-based advanced development projects with invited fellows
from developing countries;
- Macau-based curriculum development projects with invited fellows
from higher education institutions in developing countries;
- joint events, including workshops, exhibitions, conferences, etc.
- dissemination of publications and public domain software,
including software developed in UNU/IIST's advanced
development projects; and
- involvement of fellows from developing countries in consultancy
studies.
You can find specific details, where appropriate, relating to
collaboration on each of these activities below, together with more
general information on collaboration (who we collaborate with;
ownership of results of collaboration; why you might wish to undertake
some joint activity with us; costs of UNU/IIST Fellowships; and how to
initiate contact with us).
In conclusion, we do stress that each request for cooperation is dealt
with on a case by case basis. Lack of partner funding is not in itself
a reason for not entering into a cooperative agreement, especially
when there is a genuine commitment by the partner to pursue goals and
objectives which are in line with UNU/IIST's own.
