8 With Whom UNU/IIST Collaborates

We work primarily with the following kinds of institutions in developing countries:

• university computer science departments;

• research laboratories; and

• commercial concerns, including public and private development laboratories

Joint activities can involve either a single outside institution or a consortium of such institutions (which may under certain circumstances include partners from developed countries). Collaboration as part of a consortium can perhaps help to reduce costs and individual risks, lead to the sharing of expertise, and form the basis for possible future collaboration among the members of the consortium.
