UNU/IIST organizes (or co-organizes) occasional events in addition to the courses described in II/2, including conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings. The purpose of these events is generally:
In addition, UNU-IIST provides sponsorship and support to computer science conferences which are directly related to its current research and development areas. Sponsorship is usually in the form of financial support to help participants from developing countries to present papers during the main sessions (i.e. not for poster session presentations) at these conferences, including for example help with the payment of conference registration fees and/or local accommodation costs (but generally not with travel costs). The more general support includes participation in conference organisation (with UNU-IIST staff being members of organising committees), reviewing of submitted papers, etc.
