Speakers' Biographies
Grigoris Antoniou, FORTH-ICS
Grigoris Antoniou is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Crete, and Head of the Information Systems Laboratory at FORTH-ICS, the top-rated research institute in Greece. Previously he has held professorial appointments at Griffith University, Australia, and the University of Bremen, Germany.His research interests lie in semantic technologies, particularly knowledge representation and reasoning, and its application to ambient intelligence, e-commerce, and cultural informatics. He has published over 150 technical papers in scientific journals and conferences. He is author of three books with international publishers (MIT Press, Addison-Wesley); his book "A Semantic Web Primer" is internationally the standard textbook in the area, and has been or is about to be translated to Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Greek. In recognition of his work, he was elected an ECCAI Fellow in 2006, joining the prestigious list of the best AI researchers in Europe.
He is member of three editorial boards of journals, has organised a number of conferences and workshops, and has served in numerous programme committees. He has led a number of national and international research projects, and has participated in many more. Since 2008 he is member of the ECCAI Board.

Martin Doerr, FORTH-ICS
Martin Doerr has studied mathematics and physics from 1972-1978 and holds a PhD in experimental physics from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. Since 1990 he is Principle Researcher at FORTH. He has been leading or participating in a series of national and international projects for knowledge management, terminology management, cultural information systems and information integration systems, and has been responsible for industrial strength software development for museums and archive clients. He is leading the working group of ICOM/CIDOC (International Committee for Documentation of the International Council of Museums). This Group has developed ISO21127:2006, together with the respective ISO committees, a standard core ontology for the semantic interoperability of cultural heritage information and beyond, and has continued collaboration with the International Federation of Library Association on the integration of library, archive and museum information. He is member of the editorial board of the journal “Applied Ontology” and the ACM Journal on Computing and Cultural Heritage, and currently also member of the Core Expert Group for the development of the European Digital Library "Europeana". His research interests are ontology engineering, semantic interoperability and information integration.[Presentation Abstracts]
Sharif Shams Imon, Heritage Studies Centre, Institute For Tourism Studies
Sharif Shams Imon has been teaching at the tertiary level since 1997. Before joining IFT in 2006, he taught as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, worked as the Academic Consultant for the HKU-SPACE Cultural Heritage Management Programme (CHMP) and taught in the Architectural Conservation Programme (ACP), Department of Architecture of The University of Hong Kong (HKU).Dr. Imon is actively involved in the UNESCO and ICCROM training programmes on cultural heritage management in South and South East Asia. His recent works include development of training materials for Cultural Heritage Specialized Guide Training and Certification Programme for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and a training manual on Cultural Tourism Sites Management (a UNESCAP project). On behalf of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Dr. Imon has carried out reactive monitoring and site evaluation missions to sites in Asia.

Chin Ee Ong, Heritage Studies Centre, Institute For Tourism Studies
Chin Ee is a cultural tourism professional with broad research interests in cultural heritage management, site-presentation and interpretation and critical tourism studies. He started his career as a public education executive in the National Heritage Board (NHB) of Singapore, the key organization in Singapore overseeing, marketing and managing museums, heritage trails and historic sites in the island-state. At NHB, he held the twin portfolio of managing the interpretation of 89 marked historic sites, 52 national monuments and 10 marked heritage trails and the running of heritage educational programmes for schools and organizations in Singapore.Since joining Institute For Tourism Studies (IFT) in February 2006 as Lecturer in Heritage and Tourism Management, Chin Ee has primarily been involved in the teaching of cultural heritage and tourism-related modules and the development and delivery of cultural heritage guide training for UNESCO World Heritage sites and research work on Macao and China tourism.

Veronica S. Moertini, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, Indonesia
Veronica S. Moertini is a lecturer at Informatics Department, Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar), Indonesia. She is currently also Head of Information Technology Bureau (ITB) of Unpar. She completed her doctorate degree from Bandung Institute of Technology on August 2007 after defending her dissertation majoring on data mining, integrating data mining techniques into DBMS and image analysis (case study: batik images). Her research interests include image analysis, data mining, database and university management information system. Since holding the position of Head of ITB Unpar, she has also been interested in researching university ICT system and management. Before joining Unpar in 2001, while conducting her dissertation research and after graduation, she has led several research projects and the results have been published in journals and conferences.She has also been editors of national and international conferences as well as national journals.

Marie Imelda MacLeod, Director of Historical Archives, Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government
Marie Imelda MacLeod has been Director of the Historical Archives of Macao since October 2006. She took up the position following a three-year period heading the research and publications division of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. This presentation, which reflects more recent trends in archives management, is the result of collaboration between the Historical Archives of Macao and the IT Section of Cultural Affairs Bureau.[Presentation Abstracts]
