Message from the President
Let's talk briefly about the
Association. The seed of AA was sown by Tomasz Janowski and the
newsletter is one of the first tangible side effects.
Our first
President was the former Argentinian Fellow Marisa Sanchez. She
began to organise several topics and even sent mails of which you
should be aware. When she left Macau, Gustavo Giménez (that is
me surprisingly), assumed and by the time this newsletter is being written is still in
charge.
As stated in the inaugural meeting the reasons that compelled us to
create our association can be expressed by some general sentences:
- Sharing of different academic/social experiences.
- Cooperation between Fellows/Institutions.
- Forum for the debate of ideas.
- Report about current work taking place at UNU/IIST
- Information about events that are sponsored by the
Institute in different geographical sites and the eventual facilities that
can be obtained for those that may be interested.
In spite of how loosely bounded or informal as they may look, I believe you
understand what we intend.
The Association is grateful to Tomasz and Marisa for the guiding
efforts, not forgetting the staff and fellows for their advice and
comments. And I am
personally indebted to N. S. Prakash for his enthusiastic dedication
to the newsletter.
I hope AA will serve as an instrument through which we
may continue to improve the understanding and collaboration between
fellows and their cultures. Specifically in a complementary rôle
to what has been done at the Institute. Explicitly put, we will be in
contact with current and former staff and fellows.
Because, as you know so well,
leaving the Institute is not the end, it is just the beginning.
The President
